Glass lens replacement in a frame. What can get in the way of the operation, what are the options?
Usually, all it takes is one question from the wearer to find out if they feel uncomfortable wearing the slippers. This can happen if they are not properly adjusted. Poorly adjusted slippers can cause a very uncomfortable indentation/cut on the nose, which can even lead to headaches in the long run. However, if adjusted correctly for us, they can then sit very nicely and even be more comfortable than a good plastic frame nose piece.
There are two types of slippers to choose from, one with a snap and one with a screw. Within these, there are silicone air-cushioned slippers, which are even softer and more comfortable to wear. If it is a larger driopter, it is also heavier. In such cases, silicone air-cushion slippers are recommended to be placed over the glasses, giving a very soft feel to the nose.
The nose piece of the glasses will wear out over time. Because they come into contact with your skin, they can even get sweat on them. If someone sweats more profusely, the little screw on the slipper can turn green where it comes into contact with the sweat droplets. This can turn the whole nose bridge green, which is not a pretty sight. Even with the most careful cleaning, it’s worth replacing them half, or at least once a year, to ensure that you always have fresh and clean slippers on your frame.
At Rapidus Optik we can do this for you, at minimal cost. When it comes to replacing them, it is important that the specialist recognises which type of slippers are involved. Always fit the right new slippers to the frame in the right way, so don’t start the process at home!
