Replacement of nose pads, slippers. When is it recommended, what types are there?
The only solution to repair scratched lenses is to replace the lens. The first step, of course, is to check what caused the scratch. This could be an external mechanical scratch, for example, or coating damage caused by sudden high heat, or it could be that you are actually dealing with coating abrasion. In the latter case, it is necessary to check whether this is due to a quality problem or whether it is also caused by an external factor: mechanical damage, heat, vapours or gases.
Lens manufacturers can use a variety of specially developed tools to investigate exactly what could have caused the lens or coating to be damaged. Based on the official lens manufacturer’s expert opinion, it is then decided whether or not the scratched lens can be repaired under warranty. If so, the manufacturer will send you a new lens. In the case of damage, it is up to the customer to decide whether he wants to order a new lens.
First of all, it is very important to clean your lenses properly. Unfortunately, it is quite common for customers to be unaware of what this means. And an inadequate culture of cleaning glasses can lead to a lot of trouble. In each case, Rapidus Optika provides new eyewear owners with full information on how and with what cleaning products to maintain their lenses.
Glasses should always be cleaned when wet, using a suitable eyeglass cleaning spray and a microfibre cloth. In addition, there is the pre-packaged wet cleaning cloth developed by ZEISS, which does not contain alcohol and can be used specifically for plastic lenses.
It is important to note here that plastic lenses require special attention, as all the cleaning products and wet wipes available in the shops generally contain alcohol and are overwhelmingly designed for glass lenses. If you do apply them to plastic lenses, the coating will “cake up” and wear off easily. And no lens manufacturer can guarantee against such cases.
Secondly, we must protect our glasses from any external factors that could cause potential damage. We are talking here about steam from cooking, opening a hot oven, leaving glasses in a hot car in the summer, or even repairing glasses at home with a screwdriver.
