Can scratched lenses be repaired? What could have caused the damage and what can be done about it?
There are basically two types of frame stems: the spring stem and the plain stem. In the case of the first type, the spring hinge is the one that tends to break off most of the time, its function being to connect the front part to the stem.
This is an easy task for skilled hands, since the specialist has the special screws and tools, but otherwise it is a bit more complicated and can take more time. However, after inserting the right spring screw into the hinge, the spring stem frame is back in operation.
Additionally, if you have any problems with the stem, you can order an original stem from the manufacturer. If it is no longer available, you can choose from a wide range of aftermarket spring shafts, which are now available. As for the plain shaft, it is a step easier to repair.
The problematic stem is simply removed by removing the screw, and then the screw is inserted after fitting a suitable new stem. And the frame works perfectly again.
These small screws come in many sizes. It makes a difference how many mm thick screws are used for a frame. If one of them is too tight, it will not work, nor will one that is smaller and twists. Any that is too long and not trimmed can be dangerous and uncomfortable. You can get your hand caught in it or even scratch your face while putting on the glasses.
This is precisely why it is important to always use the right size screws to repair the frame and to pay full attention to the small details listed above. This is why we should not start at home! At Rapidus Opticians, everything is taken care of and our frames are repaired with expert hands.
