Barley on the eyelids

Barley in the eyes, what solutions can help?

Barley, which appears on the eyelid, is actually a tiny, but more troublesome, inflammatory abscess. This problem affecting our eyes is usually caused by a bacterial infection and unfortunately, several can develop at the same time in the same place. There are both external and internal barley, depending on exactly where it is located – on the upper or outer part of the eyelid.

Symptoms of eye barley

A small pimple-like formation is a fairly obvious sign that barley has formed on the eyelid. However, the diagnosis is even more certain if it is accompanied by discharge, tightness, swelling, redness, tenderness or pain. Later, a yellowish pustule appears on the surface, at which point it is no longer so tense.

Is the disease contagious?

If the infection is caused by a virus, it can be transmitted to the other eye by applying mascara, but this is not the most common cause. There is no need to keep your distance from someone with barley on their eyelids, as droplet infections do not spread this eye problem.

What solutions can help?

In many cases, we can speed up the healing process with simple compresses and bandages. In fact, very often this problem will go away on its own, without causing further lesions. However, specialist help may be needed if necessary. In such cases, antibiotics or steroid ointments are used to combat the discomfort. Never try to open or clean it yourself, as this will only cause more damage!

Important to know!

Barley clouds almost everyone’s day at least once, it is a very common and frequent condition that is easy to treat. However, if it recurs many times in a row, it may indicate other problems, so it’s worth investigating more thoroughly. Diabetes or a weakened immune system may also be at fault. Hailstones are a less common but much more unpleasant eye condition caused by inflammation of the inner glands. Because it never goes away on its own, it must be surgically removed.
