Glasses or contact lenses?

The best answer is both. People who wear contact lenses – however comfortable they are – also need a rest sometimes, and that’s when glasses come in handy. Of course, some people prefer to wear glasses only, but contact lenses can also offer them greater comfort in many cases, and of course they can be a good choice for aesthetics.

Who is recommended to have a vision screening?

For everyone, actually. It’s very important to look after your eyesight, and prevention is one of your biggest friends. Regular eye tests are essential for those who work at a computer, but it’s also important to get them as soon as possible to prevent the deterioration that comes with ageing. Screening is also important for children, but in principle everyone should have an annual eye test.

How long does the eye test take?

It depends on a lot of factors. Firstly, the type of test, as each one takes a different amount of time. It also depends, of course, on the patient’s symptoms. Thus, the examination can be finished in as little as 15 minutes in some cases, but can take up to 60 minutes.

Why get expensive glasses when you can get them for a few hundred forints?

It’s safe to say that the world of our eyes deserves the best treatment, the most up-to-date equipment, and of course the best possible products, made with the utmost care and attention to detail. The few hundred pairs of spectacles available in the shops are hardly personalised, and wearing them can often cause more damage.

How do we protect and clean our glasses?

It’s natural to be wary of your glasses, so it’s important to look after them. Always put them on and take them off with both hands, holding them by both arms, and never put them on with the lens down. When cleaning, use only the appropriate tools. Dry paper or wiping cloths can damage the surface, as can strong chemicals. Always leave repairs to a professional!

Can eye disease cause vision loss?

Unfortunately, yes. That’s why it’s important to have regular eye screenings, because if your vision can’t be corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses, it’s more than likely that you have an underlying eye condition. Even a slight deterioration in vision can alert us to this, so always have a check-up at the same place so that we have something to compare it against.

How old should children be when they have their eyes tested?

Even at a very young age, it may be worth getting your child’s eyes tested, as babies cannot tell if there is a problem with their vision. In addition, it is very difficult for parents to notice if there is poor vision or squinting. It is also worth taking your child for an eye test before they start school so that they can start learning without any problems – if there is a problem with their eyes, they should be told before they start.

How long will my new glasses last?

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer. The average life of glasses is about 2-3 years, but this can vary either positively or negatively. How long a pair of glasses will last depends on the age of the wearer, the effects of any eye diseases and, of course, how we treat our glasses. If you feel that your glasses are no longer suitable, you should have a new eye test as soon as possible.
